“Everyone says I love you” is a story taking place in 2020, with the onset of the pandemic, which transports us between Egypt, Canada and America to meet many Egyptian expatriates suffering from the difficulties of long distance relationship. Added to this existential crisis is the problem of estrangement and cultural identity, but also the constant overwhelming effect of a collapse of the contemporary Arab world over the past 30 years.
May Telmissany Egyptian-Canadian novelist, translator, scholar and film critic. She currently teaches film and Arabic studies at the University of Ottawa in Canada. May Telmissany has published three novels, “Doniazade”, “Heliopolis”, “Acappella”, also translated into French by Actes Sud, and three collections of short stories: “repeated sculpture”, “Mental betrayal”, “Magic eye”; as well as a number of studies, articles and translations.
