Welcome to the French Institute in Egypt in Mounira
The head office of the French Institute in Egypt has been located in Mounira, Downtown Cairo, since 1996.
Heir to a long francophone tradition, this building once housed the old French Law School in Cairo, built in the early 20th century on the grounds of the French Institute for Oriental Archaeology (IFAO). It also lends its name to the street in Mounira where it is located: Madrasset El Huquq El Frinseya Road.
Spaces and activities
Several spaces welcome events of various kinds at the Institute all year long: the auditorium (180 seats), the exhibition hall, the patio, the terrace… Come and attend conferences, movie screenings, plays, as well as major annual events: The Night of Ideas, International Women’s Rights Day, The Francophonie Day, Sustainable City Making, The French Book Fair, and many more!
Renovated in 2021, the media library offers a free access to work rooms, reading spaces, tablets and activities in virtual reality for all audiences, as well as wifi access.
Lastly, the “Les jardins de Mounira” restaurant in the patio offers a variety of French and Egyptian-inspired dishes that will satisfy all tastes.
