Cooperation

The French Embassy in Egypt’s Cooperation and Cultural Action Department (SCAC) is responsible for Franco-Egyptian cooperation in terms of visual arts and performing arts, the book, debates of ideas, broadcasting and heritage.

Its primary tool is the French Institute in Egypt, whose programing is spread across three branches dedicated to culture: Cairo, Alexandria and Heliopolis.

The IFE’s branches’ programing offers accessible and meaningful events on a regular basis around movie screenings, literary events, roundups and workshops for the youth, exhibitions, shows and conferences. It also schedules other events of the French, francophone and international calendar.

Institutional Cooperation, Civil society and Heritage

The institutional cooperation, civil society and heritage sector under the French Embassy in Egypt’s Service de coopération et d’action culturelle (SCAC – Cooperation and Cultural Action Department) is involved in multiple sectors, both institutional and non-institutional. Within this framework, the sector has many financial tools (traineeship grants/grants/direct intervention credits) in partnership with Egyptian and French partners, to ensure the exchange of expertise and the training of Egyptian senior officials. It also helps strengthen its ties with Egyptian and French associations and non-governmental organizations and enables it to support various projects in the fields of heritage and archaeology. This exchange of expertise is also provided by the sector’s support to French expert missions in Egypt and by inviting Egyptian delegations to France.

The sector also maintains dialogue with international actors, including the European Union’s delegation, on various topics (notably democratic governance, civil society, gender issues and development).
