With a special guest
Feathers, by Omar El Zohairy (2021, Arabic with French subtitles, 2h03)
A family is forced to have a period of self-discovery after their overbearing patriarch is accidentally turned into a chicken by a magician at a children’s birthday party. The film then focuses on the daily life of Umm Mario, the mother who must provide for her children alone. Under the guise of absurdity, the film shows the economic problems in which the Egyptian working class is struggling.
The film was awarded Grand Prix of the Critics’ Week at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and is the first Egyptian feature film to win this award.
