The Downtown Contemporary Art Festival, also known as D–CAF, is an annual contemporary art festival that sheds light on Cairo’s contemporary arts scene. Starting in the month of October each year, the festival takes place to celebrate a variety of artistic mediums, including theatre, contemporary dance, music, visual arts and new media. D–CAF has established itself as one of Cairo’s most innovative contemporary art festivals by bringing artistic events by local and international artists and practitioners over the years.  

One of the main aims of the festival is to highlightDowntown Cairo as a vibrant cultural center. Since 2012,D–CAFhas been using historical buildings, alleyways, storefronts, and rooftops as performance and exhibition spaces, offering visitors the chance to see the neighborhood’s exceptional heritage in a whole new light. D–CAF‘s 11th edition, which will take place from the 12th of October to the 5th of November, will showcase a variety of cultures and artistic expressions.
