Students of the arabic language department are discovering Luxor!

Students in the DEAC (Department of Modern Arabic) at the French Institute in Egypt are enjoying a week of study in Luxor, one of the most historically rich places in Egypt. This linguistic and cultural session, which is a core part of the year, results in a research project that is presented and evaluated as part of the DEAC program of study.

 

A very diverse programm in an historic setting

Each day is divided into four periods:

9-11 a.m. Lecture, in Arabic.

11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Guided visit related to the lecture, in Arabic.

1:30-5 p.m.: Free period, generally for research.

5-7 p.m. Lesson (review of the day and preparation for the following day’s lecture).

Karnak, tourism in Upper Egypt, colossi of Memnon, the student will not miss a thing!

The session began this Sunday 5 February with a lecture about tourism on the East Bank followed by a guided tour of Karnak, the famous temple-city classified on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

-Monday February 6: Lecture about tourism on the West Bank followed by a guided tour of the Tombs of the Nobles, the Collosi of Memnon, and the El Mohareb Convent.

 

Tuesday February 7: Lecture about the customs and traditions of Upper Egypt, followed by a sampling of traditional dishes at the home of a local family.

 

Wednesday February 8: Lecture about housing in the region followed by a tour of Hassan Fathy’s village.

Thursday February 9: Lecture about agriculture followed by a tour of a farm and dried tomato factory.

Thursday evening: Concert of local folklore.

Friday February 9: Lecture on Sufism.
