Programmer at Mounira Cinema
The French Institute in Egypt (Mounira) is launching a call for applications to find its next programmer for Mounira Cinema.
Mounira Cinema is a weekly event held every Monday at 7 PM in the auditorium (165 seats) of the French Institute of Egypt, catering to a wide and diverse audience (including French, Egyptian, and other nationalities; French, English and Arabic speakers). The Institute offers free screenings open to all, as part of its efforts to promote cultural accessibility. The goal is to highlight both egyptian and regional cinema as well as french cinema. Egypt and France are two significant cinematic nations, with many co-productions and partnerships established between them. Mounira Cinema’s programming reflects this dynamic, revolving around diverse and regularly updated thematic cycles.
For 2026, the French Institute of Egypt is calling for applications from Egyptian associations to design and coordinate the upcoming Mounira Cinema programming, scheduled every Monday from May 4th to July 13th, 2026; and from September 7th to December 14th (with breaks during the Cairo International Film Festival and the Panorama European Film Festival.)
Expectations:
- Design a cinematic program of 24 sessions, potentially including special guests for QnA (producer, director, actor, critic, sound engineer, etc.);
- Propose a rich programming schedule with a monthly theme;
- Prepare communication materials (texts and visuals with a clear graphic identity) ahead of the screenings and share these for the Institut’s social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, etc.), crosspost event communications, and create posters if needed;
- Coordinate and implement the programming in collaboration with the IFE teams and its partners;
- Be present to introduce the film beforehand and facilitate potential discussions after the screenings;
- Offer a varied program, featuring French, Egyptian or Arabic cinema and including different formats such as feature films, short films, hybrid sessions (workshops, Q&A sessions, etc.);
- The programmer can rely on the IF Cinéma platform for screening rights but is also expected to utilize their expertise and professional network to obtain other film rights.
