In the late 1970s, in Yopougon, a popular district of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where Aya lives. Aya spends her days between school, family and her two best friends: Adjoua and Bintou, who can’t wait to sneak off to the maquis after dark. But things take a complicated turn when Adjoua finds herself pregnant. The film was originally a 6-volume comic book (Gallimard, 2005) translated into 15 languages and adapted by its creators: author Marguerite Abouet and illustrator Clément Oubrerie.
