General presentation

The Department of Contemporary Arabic Language (DEAC), created in 1982, provides courses allowing students in Arabic of all levels to acquire solid linguistic skills in this language, both oral and written, as required to carry out their studies, research, or professional projects.

The DEAC is included in the training framework of students in Arabic and Arabic studies and students whose university program requires mastering this language. Thus, the DEAC has many partners in the universities all over the world, such as the University of Paris IV Sorbonne, the National Institute of Foreign Languages and Civilizations, the Institutes of Political Studies (IEP), the ENS, etc.

The DEAC also welcomes interns from both the professional and research worlds each year. The missions of the DEAC include the training of embassy staff, and large companies established in Egypt, as well as the staff of cooperation organizations, NGOs, etc.

With nearly 40 years of experience teaching Arabic as a foreign language, the DEAC offers a variety of courses and programs in both standard modern Arabic (or literal Arabic) and in Egyptian Colloquial Arabic for all levels of language learning: absolute beginners, false beginners, intermediate and advanced. DEAC offers courses tailored to various needs and levels and develops in oral and as well as written skills. Courses rely on varied resources, which are regularly updated, in connection with news, written and audiovisual media, social networks, contemporary Arabic literature, contemporary dialect literature, etc.

The aim of the DEAC is to make its students both proficient in Arabic and cognizant of Egypt and the Arab world. All DEAC lessons are delivered exclusively in Arabic.
