Educational and linguistic cooperation

The French Institute in Egypt/Cooperation and Cultural Action Department of the French Embassy in Egypt defines and implements, throughout Egypt, the projects and actions for the development of the French education system. It also supports the teaching and learning of the French language in Egyptian school, university and training systems.

Therefore, with regard to school systems, the educational and linguistic cooperation sector animates and coordinates a network of 14 French curriculum schools that welcome over 10,000 Egyptian, French and foreign students in Cairo, Alexandria, Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. The French Embassy in Egypt’s educational sector ensures compliance with the rules of the French National Education set in the context of accreditation, in close collaboration with the Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger (AEFE – Agency for French Education Abroad), operator of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.

This very cooperation sector also accompanies the network of 44 Egyptian bilingual schools

Regarding higher education, the French Institute in Egypt supports French Studies and Education university departments by providing teachers access to linguistic and educational trainings and seminars in France. Support is also provided to French-language and educational research networks, including through the FORDE program (Formation en Recherche Doctorale en Egypte – Doctoral Research Training in Egypt). It offers seminars to Ph.D students and lecturer-researchers as well as workshops for the implementation of research networks.

Lastly, regarding the complementary training of French teachers in Egypt, the French Institute in Egypt leads the Institut universitaire de formation des professeurs (IUFP – University Institute for Teacher Training) in partnership with the Egyptian Ministry of Education and Technical Education, Ain Shams University, as well as the Institut supérieur du Professorat et de l’Éducation (INSPE – Higher Institute for Professorship and Education) at Paris-Sorbonne. The professionalizing trainings offered there are intended for French teachers eager to improve their skills in the initial and continued training. The IUFP also accompanies French teachers who wish to move towards management positions by offering a training of trainers.
