Meeting with Ons Trabelsi about his book\n‘Sīdī Molière’ or Molière in Arabic. \nFrom the outset\, modern Arab theatre has been associated with Molière and a discourse advocating modernity and reform. It was not a dramatic model developed coherently and then faithfully reproduced\, but rather a vast field of experimentation based on composite\, hybrid\, local and foreign elements. The plays adapted from Molière’s theatre studied by Ons Trabelsi provide an insight into the process of constructing this model based on a synthesis between\, on the one hand\, procedures borrowed from Molière and classical comedy and\, on the other\, procedures inherited from traditional forms of performance. Debate moderated by Pr. Randa Sabry. \nOns Trabelsi is a lecturer at the University of Lorraine. UFR- Arts\, Lettres et Langues / CERCLE. \nHer research focuses on modern and contemporary Arab theatre\, the repertoire\, history\, circulation and development of the performing arts\, particularly in Egypt and Tunisia. She is also an actress.
