DESCRIPTION:Conference by Henry Laurens\, professor at the College of France. \nThe term ‘minorities’ is absent from the political language of 19th century Europe. It only appeared late in the administrative practice of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and especially on the eve of the 1914 war in the context of the Balkan wars. Its use became widespread from 1917 onwards in the context of the definition of the right of peoples to self-determination. From then on\, it was used in the 1919 treaties governing European issues. In the same year\, it was used for the Arab East\, thereby transforming the status of communities that had existed for centuries. Henry Laurens holds the Chair of Contemporary History of the Arab World at the College of France. The IFE invites you to discover the French repertoire through a high-quality restitution concert. \nSoprano Caroline Dumas studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and was awarded 3 first prizes before she was hired as a soloist at the Paris Opera. The roles that contributed to her fame include Micaëla in Carmen by Bizet\, Thaïs by Massenet\, and Marguerite in Faust by Gounod. Creator of the Lulu d’Alban Berg in France\, her international career enabled her to work alongside Michel Plasson\, Georges Prêtre\, Manuel Rosenthal\, Montserrat Caballé\, José Van Dam\, Gabriel Bacquier\, Rita Gorr… Now a singing teacher at the École Normale de Musique de Paris\, she is regularly invited for masterclasses abroad\, including Egypt where we are delighted to welcome her.
