In the evening\, while he was with his best friend Diégane\, he breaks his promise and goes to the sea. He will never come back. The circumstances of his death\, as well as Délia’s prediction\, will encourage the young fishermen of the neighborhood to pay greater attention to Délia’s predictions\, which will not make the Imam and the local priest very happy.

DESCRIPTION:The French Institute of Egypt in Alexandria welcomes the artist Léon Dubois for a research residency as part of his project “A la recherche du Petit Prince”. For a month\, the artist is interested in the passage of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in Egypt\, leads workshops with Alexandrian students and will propose at the end of his research a photographic exhibition in the great hall of the institute. . This work is part of a global photographic project initiated by the artist on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Little Prince. By crossing the archive\, photographic creation and the collection of memories\, he seeks to define the visual and conceptual contours of a contemporary Little Prince. The exhibition is accompanied by a sound performance with the musician Ahmed Saleh which will be presented during the opening on March 13\, 2023.\nFind the exhibition in the great hall of the institute from March 13 to April 10\, 2023.

His jump to search for freedom triggers a series of chaotic events\, leading to the biggest political imbroglios of the Cold War. Simas\, through the lens of the director Giedrė Žickytė\, reflects on his incredible saga in a movie that follows the development of an ordinary man who ended up being an universal icon for immigrants seeking freedom.

DESCRIPTION:The “Impressions” Exhibition \nCelebrating the third edition of the Cairo Photo Week organized by Photopia\, the French Institute in Egypt presents “Impressions”: an exhibition of 9 Egyptian photographers. The photographs are collected by the exhibition curator\, editor and artist Sarah Sarofim who is a specialist in staged photography. This event is considered as a documentation of the photography scene in Egypt. The artists poured their identity\, their era\, and their territory in sundry photography styles\, like photography of fashion\, documentaries\, fiction\, and even plastic arts. The selected photographs were chosen after the call for projects launched by the French Institute\, through a jury consisting of Denis Dailleux\, Fabienne Pavia\, Marwa Abouleila the founder of Photopia\, Sarah Sarofim and the team of the French Institute. The photographs are: Eslam Abd El Salam\, Ahmed AbdelShafi\, Fadel Dawod\, Amr ElKafrawy\, Omar ElKafrawy\, Malak ElSawi\, Dina ElZeneiny\, Ruwan Hamdy and Rina Hani. \n  \nWorkshops and seminars \nDuring this biennial\, the French Institute in Egypt will organize several events open to everyone: \n\nPhotographer Denis Dailleux will host a workshop on portrait photography in natural light from February 10th to February 14th\, 2023\, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The photographer will also host a portfolio review session on February 16th\, 2023\, at 11:00\, followed by a seminar on his work as a photographer held in the auditorium of the French Institute at 5:00 pm. Denis Dailleux is a photograph specialized in Egypt. He will be in Cairo for the inauguration of his monographic exhibition at Tintera Gallery and the publication of his new book “Misr. Denis Dailleux’s Egypt” bringing together the most emblematic photographs by him.\nAuthor Shiran Ben Abderrazak will give a presentation in a seminar on the link between NFTs and photography in the auditorium of the French Institute on February 10th 2023 at 6:00 pm. Shiran Ben Abderrazak will also take part in a discussion with collectors on the topic of NFTS which will also be held in the auditorium of the French Institute on February 11th 2023 at 7:00 pm. Shiran Ben Abderrazak is a writer and a Franco-Tunisian cultural expert specialized in the NFTs.\nEditor Fabienne Pavia will host a workshop on editing in photography reflecting on the form and content of artists’ books from February 9th to February 12th 2023\, from 10 am to 3 pm.
