DESCRIPTION:As part of the Ramadan Nights programme\, the French Institute of Egypt has put together a series of concert evenings exploring traditional Egyptian music!\n\nWe welcome for this second evening event\, the Sudanese singer and percussionist based in Cairo\, Asia Madani.\n\nPerforming Sudanese folklore from all regions of Sudan\, north\, south\, east\, west and central Sudan\, as well as traditional girls’ songs and music from various parts of Africa\, Asia has left her mark on the world. She also specialises in the performance of “Zar”\, which is used as psychotherapy.

DESCRIPTION:Talk will be moderated by Salma Kojok\, writer and president of the Jury du Choix Goncourt de l’Orient. \nWithin the framework of the month of Francophonie\, the AUF Middle East in partnership with the Goncourt Academy and the French Institute of Egypt are organizing a literary talk with Nathan Devers\, winner of the Prix Goncourt de l’Orient 2022\, for his novel “The artificial links”.\nThis talk with the author is an opportunity for the French-speaking public to discuss his work\, his news and his career as a writer.\nThe novel begins with the suicide attempt of Julien Libérat who\, under a heavy downpour\, throws himself out of the window while filming himself on social networks. Flashback: Julien is a piano teacher who leaves Paris\, after separating from his partner\, to live in the suburbs without much activity. He then discovers online a “mirror” world\, the Antimonde\, of diabolical precision\, where everything is possible: a second chance to become what he would have dreamed of being… This winning novel of the Goncourt Choice of the Orient 2022 was acclaimed by a jury made up of students from the Middle East region.\nNathan Devers is 24 years old. A graduate of the École Normale Supérieure and agrégé in philosophy\, he has published Genealogy of Religion (Le Cerf\, 2019)\, Heaven and Earth (Flammarion\, 2020\, Edmée de La Rochefoucauld Prize) and Espace Smoking (Grasset\, 2021). She sits on a rock\, opens her notebook and draws recipes for her restaurant. Back home\, she checks on her husband Jules who just woke up from sleep. Despite Jules’ insistence on paying their electricity bills\, Délia tells him about her bad feeling\, and makes him promise her not to go fishing. In the evening\, while he was with his best friend Diégane\, he breaks his promise and goes to the sea. He will never come back. The circumstances of his death\, as well as Délia’s prediction\, will encourage the young fishermen of the neighborhood to pay greater attention to Délia’s predictions\, which will not make the Imam and the local priest very happy.

DESCRIPTION:The French Institute of Egypt in Alexandria welcomes the artist Léon Dubois for a research residency as part of his project “A la recherche du Petit Prince”. For a month\, the artist is interested in the passage of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in Egypt\, leads workshops with Alexandrian students and will propose at the end of his research a photographic exhibition in the great hall of the institute. . This work is part of a global photographic project initiated by the artist on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Little Prince. By crossing the archive\, photographic creation and the collection of memories\, he seeks to define the visual and conceptual contours of a contemporary Little Prince. The exhibition is accompanied by a sound performance with the musician Ahmed Saleh which will be presented during the opening on March 13\, 2023.\nFind the exhibition in the great hall of the institute from March 13 to April 10\, 2023.
