Focusing on scriptwriting on the one hand\, and gathering numerous testimonials and interviews on the other\, the author achieves a sociology of Abdel-Sayed’s films and depicts the major themes common to his works by linking them to the filmmaker’s personal life. One of the pioneers of Egyptian neo-realism\, Abdel-Sayed has made numerous films dealing with the social problems inherent to his country\, while tinting them with a very personal poetry. Debate in the presence of Alaa Khaled and Onsy Abou-Seif\, Daoud Abdel-Sayed’s film set designer.

At the end of each period in history\, the city was damaged: the burning of the royal quarters and the death of Cleopatra\, the great natural disasters at the end of antiquity\, the abandonment of the city at the end of the Middle Ages\, the bombing of 1882\, the exodus of foreign communities. Each major crisis faced by Alexandria allowed the city to deconstruct itself\, before rebuilding itself. The city is made up of these layers\, witnesses of its passionate and tumultuous life\, in the image of its inhabitants. And each of these layers recalls how the city is reborn from its ashes\, even if it is believed to be lost and forgotten. Vinz\, a Jew\, Saïd\, an Arab\, and Hubert\, a black boxer\, have grown up in these French suburbs where high levels of diversity coupled with the racist and oppressive police force have raised tensions to a critical breaking point. During the riots that took place a night before\, a police officer lost his handgun in the ensuing madness\, only to leave it for Vinz to find. Now\, with a newfound means to gain the respect he deserves\, Vinz vows to kill a cop if his friend Abdel dies in the hospital\, due the beating he received while in police custody.

But things take a complicated turn when Adjoua finds herself pregnant. The film was originally a 6-volume comic book (Gallimard\, 2005) translated into 15 languages and adapted by its creators: author Marguerite Abouet and illustrator Clément Oubrerie.

Since 2012\, D-CAF has been using historical buildings\, alleyways\, storefronts\, and rooftops as performance and exhibition spaces\, offering visitors the chance to see the neighborhood’s exceptional heritage in a whole new light. D-CAF’s 11th edition\, which will take place from the 12th of October to the 5th of November\, will showcase a variety of cultures and artistic expressions. \nThe 11th edition of D-CAF\, running from October 12 to November 5\, will be presenting a variety of cultures and artistic expressions.\nWe’ll be taking part with them in 2 theatrical performances:\n– Al Sawan” performance at Rawabet Art Square on October 15 and 16 at 8 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:About the workshop:\nA Sufi chanting\, Hilalleya \, popular songs and monologues workshop; The workshop includes a concert for the participants\, performed by Sheikh Zain and his band\, in which they are presented on stage for the first time. \nAbout Sheikh Zain Mahmoud:\nSheikh Zain Mahmoud grew up in Minya Governorate. He was originally a praiser from his father and grandfather\, and he used to read the Qur’an. When his older brother\, who was also a praiser\, died\, he left school when he was 13 years old and took his place. But his dream was always bigger than praise. He was thinking about…Sufi chanting\, popular singing\, and the art of mawal\, but because he joined the Shadili order in his country\, “Bani Mazar\,” it was not right for him to turn to singing or even chanting.\nHe learned to sing ballads and Egyptian variety theater songs and released his first record\, produced by the Arab World Institute in Paris.  Then he traveled to France\, and after his success there\, it became his first and main stop\, and from there he toured the cities of Europe. One of his most famous songs was “He Weeps and Laughs” from the movie “Gate of the Sun” by Yousry Nasrallah.
