SUMMARY:
DESCRIPTION:Presenting… CINEMA IS RESISTANCE\n\n\nA special evening screening of 2 short docs films around the theme of RESISTANCE.\n\n\nChris Marker’s SIXTH SIDE OF THE PENTAGON (1967)\nMai Masri’s FRONTIERS OF DREAMS AND FEARS (2001)\n\n\nChris Marker is well known for his radical documentary essays shedding light on the global politics of the 60s and 70s. In SIXTH SIDE OF THE PENTAGON\, he documents first-hand the historic protest in Washington DC on 21 October 1967\, when a 100\,000-strong march called for an immediate end to the War in Vietnam.\n\n\nIn her poignant 2001 documentary\, Mai Masri follows 2 Palestinian girls who are friends and penpals. Mona (13) lives in a refugee camp in Beirut and Manar (14) lives in an Israeli-controlled camp near Bethlehem. Hedged in by border controls and checkpoints\, the girls are unable to move around freely. They eventually decide to meet at the South Lebanon border\, despite the danger entailed.\n\n\nIn this time of global unrest and horrific injustice\, both these films continue to resonate strongly. Join us as we voyage into the history of RESISTANCE in its many forms through the lens of cinema.\n\n\n\nDETAILS:\n\n\nMONDAY 4th MARCH\n7PM @ CINEMA MOUNIRA\nFree entry.\nNo booking required.\n\n\nTotal screening time = 90 mins\nFrench/Arabic language with English subtitles.\n\n\nFilm begins promptly at 7pm. SUMMARY:History talks with Walid Fickry: In the beginning was Egypt:
DESCRIPTION:Egypt is the oldest nation in human history\, unified and stable on its founding borders. It is also the first nation to know a “stable governing system” and a “social system based on shared community responsibility”. We usually read in history that King Menes unified the two kingdoms of Egypt in 3200 BC. Then\, we learn about the civilization\, systems\, and ruling dynasties. But this journey towards the foundation of a stable and lasting entity that is Egypt was neither easy nor simple. So let us talk about the beginnings of Egypt that marked the opening of the book of human history.

SUMMARY:Performance by Salvatore Cataldo - "Dear Children"
DESCRIPTION:Dear Children / Chers Enfants is a solo dance performance born of the performer’s experience of the events unfolding before the eyes of a seemingly paralyzed world.  \nIn this humanity made up of so many helpless individuals\, what happens if\, as a simple dancer\, being so futile\, so small and insignificant\, in the face of a catastrophe of such magnitude\, I share my dreams? What happens if we travel to these tragedies through imagination and compassion?  \nHow many possible interpretations are there? What if we recount the impressions left by this human tragedy through scenes? Through the scenic expression of nightmares and thoughts\, is it possible to rediscover ourselves as human beings? Would we then be less dead?  \n  \nABOUT SALVATORE CATALDO \nSalvatore Cataldo has worked internationally as a dancer and actor since childhood. After working as a traditional dancer in Turkey as a teenager\, he studied Classical Ballet at the National Academy of Dance in Rome\, then graduated in Modern Dance at the Folkman University of the Arts in Germany and perfected his skills at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater school in New York. Later\, he began to study singing\, a path he pursues to this day. He has worked as a freelance dancer\, actor and singer in the USA\, Italy\, Spain\, the UK\, Egypt\, Turkey\, Saudi Arabia\, France and Germany. As a choreographer\, alongside several solo pieces\, he is directing his first group piece “Garage de l’Opéra” in Egypt” in 2019. Since 2018\, Salvatore has been working as a teacher of classical and modern dance techniques in Egypt and abroad.

SUMMARY:Debate on the Constitution
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the centenary of the 1923 Constitution\, specialists explain its importance: it was the 1923 Constitution that transformed the 1919 independence movement (led by Saad Zaghloul) into the “1919 Revolution”. As the demand for independence was closely linked to that for a democratic constitution\, Egypt’s formal independence in 1922 was followed by the adoption of the 1923 Constitution. \nDebate with Professor Mohammed Rifaat El-Imam and researcher Ahmed Imbéou.
