DESCRIPTION:As part of the Ramadan Nights programme\, the French Institute of Egypt has put together a series of concert evenings exploring traditional Egyptian music!\n\nWe welcome Mazaher for this fourth evening around a concert event!\n\nThe Mazaher Ensemble presents a special Ramadan performance based on Sufi scripts related to Zar Abu el Ghit\, named after Sheikh Hassan Abu el Ghit.\nThe ensemble will perform various roles\, from prophetic praises to stories of Sufi leaders such as El Sayed el Badawi and Abd El Kader el Gilani.\nThe traditional Egyptian instruments used date back to ancient times and are still used today in various genres\, such as the Kawala\, Mazhar\, Nakrazan and Dholak.

In the evening\, while he was with his best friend Diégane\, he breaks his promise and goes to the sea. He will never come back. The circumstances of his death\, as well as Délia’s prediction\, will encourage the young fishermen of the neighborhood to pay greater attention to Délia’s predictions\, which will not make the Imam and the local priest very happy.

SUMMARY:Cairo Photo Week 23: Back To Raw\, Program of the French Institute in Egypt
DESCRIPTION:The “Impressions” Exhibition \nCelebrating the third edition of the Cairo Photo Week organized by Photopia\, the French Institute in Egypt presents “Impressions”: an exhibition of 9 Egyptian photographers. The photographs are collected by the exhibition curator\, editor and artist Sarah Sarofim who is a specialist in staged photography. This event is considered as a documentation of the photography scene in Egypt. The artists poured their identity\, their era\, and their territory in sundry photography styles\, like photography of fashion\, documentaries\, fiction\, and even plastic arts. The selected photographs were chosen after the call for projects launched by the French Institute\, through a jury consisting of Denis Dailleux\, Fabienne Pavia\, Marwa Abouleila the founder of Photopia\, Sarah Sarofim and the team of the French Institute. The photographs are: Eslam Abd El Salam\, Ahmed AbdelShafi\, Fadel Dawod\, Amr ElKafrawy\, Omar ElKafrawy\, Malak ElSawi\, Dina ElZeneiny\, Ruwan Hamdy and Rina Hani. \n  \nWorkshops and seminars \nDuring this biennial\, the French Institute in Egypt will organize several events open to everyone: \n\nPhotographer Denis Dailleux will host a workshop on portrait photography in natural light from February 10th to February 14th\, 2023\, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The photographer will also host a portfolio review session on February 16th\, 2023\, at 11:00\, followed by a seminar on his work as a photographer held in the auditorium of the French Institute at 5:00 pm. Denis Dailleux is a photograph specialized in Egypt. He will be in Cairo for the inauguration of his monographic exhibition at Tintera Gallery and the publication of his new book “Misr. Denis Dailleux’s Egypt” bringing together the most emblematic photographs by him.\nAuthor Shiran Ben Abderrazak will give a presentation in a seminar on the link between NFTs and photography in the auditorium of the French Institute on February 10th 2023 at 6:00 pm. Shiran Ben Abderrazak will also take part in a discussion with collectors on the topic of NFTS which will also be held in the auditorium of the French Institute on February 11th 2023 at 7:00 pm. Shiran Ben Abderrazak is a writer and a Franco-Tunisian cultural expert specialized in the NFTs.\nEditor Fabienne Pavia will host a workshop on editing in photography reflecting on the form and content of artists’ books from February 9th to February 12th 2023\, from 10 am to 3 pm. He reveals to be one of the leaders of the Résistance\, the men and women separated by everything except for the will the act: Luc Jardie\, the mathematician and philosopher\, his brother Jean-François\, a hothead tempted with adventure -each totally oblivious of the others’ endeavors-\, Mathilde\, Le Masque\, Le Bison\, and a handful of other anonymous people… It’s a long journey in the night which starts with these soldiers of secrecy\, moving between intelligence communications and political assassinations\, as they’re tracked by the Gestapo and the Vichy Police.  A seemingly dead-end journey for most of them. Adapted from the novel of the same name by Joseph Kessel published in 1943.
