It inspired an entire generation of filmmakers to tell their stories and the stories of those around them. \nThe film follows the story of Khaled\, who upon returning to his native Alexandria after traveling abroad in the United States for several years\, discovers that time has altered and severed many of his prior relationships\, namely between he and his former flame. Feeling alone and rejected\, Khaled wanders the city and quickly stumbles into a new world: the underground arts scene. As he becomes increasingly enchanted with this counterculture movement\, Khaled crosses paths with street hip-hoppers\, rooftop rockers\, graffiti artists and documentary filmmakers. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday 28 January 6pm – 8pm. A taste for books. Meeting with Ons Trabelsi about his book\n‘Sīdī Molière’ or Molière in Arabic. \nFrom the outset\, modern Arab theatre has been associated with Molière and a discourse advocating modernity and reform. It was not a dramatic model developed coherently and then faithfully reproduced\, but rather a vast field of experimentation based on composite\, hybrid\, local and foreign elements. The plays adapted from Molière’s theatre studied by Ons Trabelsi provide an insight into the process of constructing this model based on a synthesis between\, on the one hand\, procedures borrowed from Molière and classical comedy and\, on the other\, procedures inherited from traditional forms of performance. Debate moderated by Pr. Randa Sabry. \nOns Trabelsi is a lecturer at the University of Lorraine. UFR- Arts\, Lettres et Langues / CERCLE. \nHer research focuses on modern and contemporary Arab theatre\, the repertoire\, history\, circulation and development of the performing arts\, particularly in Egypt and Tunisia. She is also an actress.

Born in Casablanca\, she draws inspiration from French songs\, jazz\, Bossa Nova\, African\, and Oriental music\, influenced by her family’s rich musical heritage. After launching her career as a jazz performer in Morocco\, Sara moved to Egypt in 2018\, where she has graced renowned stages such as the Cairo Jazz Club and the Cairo Jazz Festival. Her music\, blending storytelling and compositions in Moroccan dialect\, reflects a rare authenticity. Collaborations with artists like Cairokee and Amir Eid highlight her growing impact on the Egyptian and international music scene.

DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, November 20th\, 6 PM – 8 PM: The Taste of Books with Alaa Khaled \nDuring this session of The Taste of Books\, the IFE welcomes writer Alaa Khaled to mark the release of his book The Carnival of Cairo: A Scene from the 1990s (Carnaval Al-Qahira). Vibrant and colorful\, Cairo’s intellectual life was like a carnival\, a spectacle without the separation between actors and spectators\, where distances were replaced by free and familiar contact. This atmosphere gave rise to a multitude of literary and political movements and led to an explosion of expressive forms\, where the repressed and the collective unconscious found their place\, and where intimate and introspective writing flourished. In this sense\, the 1990s represent an exceptional moment in the intellectual history of Egypt
