SUMMARY:CONFERENCE - Responsibilities for Companies regarding climate change
DESCRIPTION:🔴 Conference in French \nGrégoire Leray\, professeur à l’Université Côte d’Azur\, professeur-invité à l’IDAI\, présente la conférence : “La responsabilité climatique de l’entreprise” \nAs the COP 27 in Egypt has come to an end\, and attention is focused on international negotiations\, it is useful to remember that the climate challenge requires action on several levels. In French and European law\, a binding framework is being developed to limit the climate impacts of large companies. This leads to several new assumptions of responsibility for companies. \n  \nGrégoire Leray is a professor of private law at the University of Côte d’Azur. After his doctoral thesis at the Sorbonne in civil environmental law\, he focuses his research on the study of private and economic environmental law. His recent work focuses on the analysis of the internalization of environmental issues by corporate law. \n

SUMMARY:Talk with the writer Sibylle Vincendon about her latest book "Trois Alexandrines" published by STOCK in 2022.
DESCRIPTION:The meeting will be moderated by Elsa-Petit with simultaneous arabic translation . \nRosette\, Claire\, Claude. My great-grandmother\, my grandmother\, my aunt. All three descend from the Barons of Menasce\, a prominent family of the Jewish aristocracy of Alexandria. For a long time\, I looked at this family and its history\, as not of my own. Until the day I felt un urge to know them. “ \nRosette is the Baroness Felix de Menasce; Claire\, her daughter witnesses the change of the century and helps the Free French Forces during the Second World War; and finally Claude\, beautiful and talented\, marries the author of the monumental “Quatuor d’Alexandrie” but fails to escape a tragic life. \n“Trois Alexandrines” is a tribute to this landmark city\, and Sybille Vincendon continues the story of her ancestry\, which has marked\, in its own way\, that of Alexandria. \nSibylle Vincendon specializes in architecture and urban planning and has long been a journalist for the daily newspaper Libération. This year\, she published her first novel based upon a meeting; a meeting with her family\, with a city\, with their past\, over three women of the century leading tumultuous and novel-like lives.

SUMMARY:DEBATE - Women’s engagement around the climate emergency: From the first to be impacted to their crucial role in the political decision
DESCRIPTION:A few weeks before COP27 and in response to the UN Women’s 2022 theme: “Equality today for a sustainable future”\, the French Development Agency and the French Institute are joining forces to organise a discussion on how to take gender into account in the climate actions in general and in the COP negotiations. \nGlobally\, climate change and its consequences impact differently men and women: Women are more likely to be vulnerable because they work in sectors that are more affected by climate change\, faces more inequalities in resources and labour market and division. According to UN\, studies found that women are 14 times more likely to die in a climate catastrophe than men. \nDespite recent progress\, gaps remain in how to ensure systemic and effective gender mainstreaming in climate policy. For example\, what are the most effective gender sensitive interventions that can contribute to achieve the Paris Agreement targets? In addition\, what are the policy priorities in terms of gender and climate actions and how COP can deal with it? To sum it up\, what is the real consideration of gender by and within the COP? \nThe purpose of the discussion is then to balance women’s vulnerabilities to climate change with their crucial role in terms of political decision-making and action.

DESCRIPTION:As part of COP27 and the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change … Throughout the thirty years that followed\, the world has come a long way in the fight against climate change and its negatives impacts on our planet. We are aware of the major challenges that we must face\, particularly the great obstacles to sustainable development and the difficulties related to social\, economic and environmental vulnerabilities. \nClimate change is a global imminent threat. Not only does it jeopardize all our ecosystems\, our populations and our cultures\, but also the future of humanity. \nThis exhibition highlights the role of art in addressing this issue and how it can bring people together\, initiate debates\, and be a source of hope and motivation for populations. \n“Does the ecological utopia exist? What kind of future do we want? What is the impact of climate change on different communities? What are the revolutionary solutions?” \nAll the works invite the public to dream of a sustainable and aesthetic development. \nThe exhibition is organized by Tam Gallérie and supported by the French Institute in Egypt in Alexandria \nFree entry

SUMMARY:Recital with Duo Delta - Etienne Champollion (Piano) and Mina Ghobrial (Flute)
DESCRIPTION:Descendant of the Egyptologist’s family\, the composer and pianist Étienne Champollion meets the Egyptian flutist Mina Ghobrial. They form the Duo Delta for a Franco-Egyptian recital in tribute to the decipherer of hieroglyphs. The duo will thus offer a savant and popular repertoire where Rameau\, Berlioz\, Debussy\, Poulenc and Messiaen meet their Egyptian contemporary counterparts such as Rageh Daoud\, Khaled Shokry\, Ahmad El Hennawi and Gamal Abdel-Rahim. This concert is also an opportunity to discover the music of ancient Egypt through several Coptic songs transcribed and adapted by Etienne Champollion. This recital is a vibrant tribute to the intellectual and fraternal ties that have united France and Egypt for over two centuries. “I am everything to Egypt\, she is everything to me\,” wrote Jean-Francois Champollion on September 22nd\, 1822. Nearly two hundred years later\, the Duo Delta delves back musically into this love between two countries\, in this historical\, brilliant\, and ultimately\, universal exchange. \nFree entry

SUMMARY:CONFERENCE - From peoples’ right to self-determination to the status of minorities: The political consequences of the Versailles peace
DESCRIPTION:Conference by Henry Laurens\, professor at the College of France. \nThe term ‘minorities’ is absent from the political language of 19th century Europe. It only appeared late in the administrative practice of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and especially on the eve of the 1914 war in the context of the Balkan wars. Its use became widespread from 1917 onwards in the context of the definition of the right of peoples to self-determination. From then on\, it was used in the 1919 treaties governing European issues. In the same year\, it was used for the Arab East\, thereby transforming the status of communities that had existed for centuries. Henry Laurens holds the Chair of Contemporary History of the Arab World at the College of France. He authored over twenty reference books\, including L’expédition d’Égypte (1798-1801) Paris\, ed. Armand Colin\, 1989 (reissue by Le Seuil in 1997)\, La Question de Palestine\, ed. Fayard\, 1999-2015\, 5 volumes\, Histoire du monde arabe contemporain\, Paris\, ed.
