SUMMARY:Alexandria Heritage Days 2023 : Alexandria never dies - 14th edition
DESCRIPTION:Eternal city by nature\, celebrated by travelers and poets\, Alexandria never dies. Surrounded by its cemeteries\, archaeological work shows how the ancient capital had several lives\, and several deaths. At the end of each period in history\, the city was damaged: the burning of the royal quarters and the death of Cleopatra\, the great natural disasters at the end of antiquity\, the abandonment of the city at the end of the Middle Ages\, the bombing of 1882\, the exodus of foreign communities. Each major crisis faced by Alexandria allowed the city to deconstruct itself\, before rebuilding itself. The city is made up of these layers\, witnesses of its passionate and tumultuous life\, in the image of its inhabitants. And each of these layers recalls how the city is reborn from its ashes\, even if it is believed to be lost and forgotten. The 2023 Alexandria Heritage Days are an opportunity to gather this memory\, to enrich oneself with the city’s exceptional heritage and to take advantage of this long history to write a new page for the city\, tomorrow. Alexandria never dies. \nFor more information\, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/JPAlex2010 \nProgram of the Heritage Days – IFE \n\nOpening of the exhibition “Ad vitam æternam. Cemeteries and places of memory in Alexandria”\nThursday\, November 2\, 7:00 PM – French Institute of Egypt in Alexandria\nTheater play “Bus drivers are sometimes depressed” – Up Stage Project\, Tarek Nader\nSunday\, November 5\, 8:00 PM – French Institute of Egypt in Alexandria\nDiscussion and screening of a film accompanied by live music “Barsoum is looking for a job” – Group of the 7th Art\, Alexandrian musicians.\nTuesday\, November 7\, 8:00 PM – French Institute of Egypt in Alexandria\nConference “A second life in the heritage buildings of Alexandria” – Magdy el Sabagh- Mostafa Abo el-Ela\nWednesday\, November 8\, 7:00 PM – French Institute of Egypt in Alexandria

SUMMARY:Monotone : Spectacle by Soffita Theatre

SUMMARY:Concert: Workshop with Sheikh Zain outcome
DESCRIPTION:About the workshop:\nA Sufi chanting\, Hilalleya \, popular songs and monologues workshop; The workshop includes a concert for the participants\, performed by Sheikh Zain and his band\, in which they are presented on stage for the first time. \nAbout Sheikh Zain Mahmoud:\nSheikh Zain Mahmoud grew up in Minya Governorate. He was originally a praiser from his father and grandfather\, and he used to read the Qur’an. When his older brother\, who was also a praiser\, died\, he left school when he was 13 years old and took his place. But his dream was always bigger than praise. He was thinking about…Sufi chanting\, popular singing\, and the art of mawal\, but because he joined the Shadili order in his country\, “Bani Mazar\,” it was not right for him to turn to singing or even chanting.\nHe learned to sing ballads and Egyptian variety theater songs and released his first record\, produced by the Arab World Institute in Paris.  Then he traveled to France\, and after his success there\, it became his first and main stop\, and from there he toured the cities of Europe. One of his most famous songs was “He Weeps and Laughs” from the movie “Gate of the Sun” by Yousry Nasrallah.

SUMMARY:The Dust of Time - Photography exhibition by Samar Baiomy
DESCRIPTION:On the schedule of the new patrol\, “Mina Al-Basal area in Alexandria” is visited by crowds. Fixed schedules every day where waves of workers flow from everywhere towards the same destination\, which is the cotton pressing factories. An entire life pulsates in the area during the shift change times\, minutes that separate each shift from another\, but the walls yearn for the workers’ camaraderie and await their waves. Different names and similar faces work like a restless beehive.\nSuddenly\, the flow of workers stopped. Minutes turned into years and an endless wait in the hope of return\, but everything had ended. The factory walls remained waiting for their owners’ return\, but it was a hopeless wait as the dust enveloped everything in layers that increased in thickness as the wait prolonged.\n\n“The Dust of time” is an experience that focuses on preserving collective memory through stories and memories of the Mina Al-Basal factories in Alexandria.\n\nThe exhibition continues until August 03\, 2023
